What is included in the obstetric kit for childbirth. My complete list of preparations for childbirth. Maternity hospital set “Standard”

I recommend dividing everything you need into 2 bags and labeling each one with a marker so as not to get confused. Luggage must be taken to plastic bag, since it simply won’t be accepted in another bag, for example a sports one.

PACKAGE #1. Directly for childbirth

Place it close to the exit so you don't forget it in a hurry.

  1. Postpartum pads. Or they can be replaced with regular thick gaskets. Many people who gave birth say that they are much better than postpartum ones (softer, more comfortable), and in terms of functionality they are not inferior to postpartum ones. You just need to take regular ones, without a mesh on the surface. Personally, I took the postpartum Hellen Happer. I can’t say anything bad, but I only used 3 pieces from the package.
  2. Water in a plastic bottle. Necessary thing, because during contractions for some reason thirst overcomes. I personally forgot this item - and it was very difficult to ask the maternity hospital staff for water. For some reason, some maternity hospitals do not allow you to bring water with you. The only way out is to hide it away in a bag and not say that you have it with you (unless, of course, it is prohibited to bring it in). You won’t be able to hide it under your clothes - in the reception room you will have to change into a disposable nightie and give all your things to the accompanying person. Then he will bring it.
  3. Lip balm. Lips get very dry. Just take one with a pleasant smell, otherwise you will also be nervous because of this.
  4. Slippers. Preferably those in which you can wash in the shower. But as an option, you can take 2 pairs - homemade and rubber. I only took rubber ones. Firstly, there is less load on the bag with things, which is already huge. And secondly, I just don’t see the point in bringing 2 pairs of slippers.
  5. Socks. Socks are needed, since it is usually cool in the prenatal room, and after childbirth it is somehow uncomfortable to walk with bare feet.
  6. Documents - exchange card, passport, insurance policy. Just don’t forget to take out the ultrasound photos from the exchange card, since they simply won’t be returned to you in the maternity hospital. You should always have these documents ready in the most visible place - you never know, but you may not have time to look for, for example, an insurance policy in the middle of the night.
  7. Mobile phone and charger.
  8. Molipants panties or regular swimming trunks.“Molipants” are disposable mesh panties. In my opinion, you can get by with regular swimming trunks. You just need to take 5-8 of them, since you definitely won’t have time to wash them there. “Molipants” are even more convenient because they are disposable.
  9. Disposable wipes or paper towels for hands and face. You can also use them instead of toilet paper.
  10. Postpartum bandage. After all, a mother should remain slim and beautiful even after such exhausting physical labor - childbirth!
  11. For myself disposable diaper, since not all maternity hospitals give them out (4 pieces - one per night). After the whole process there will be heavy discharge, especially in the first 2-3 days. Even postpartum pads can’t save some people. So be prepared.
  12. Laxative suppositories. I was advised to take "Glycerin". They are not expensive, around 30 rubles. Many people who give birth, after a huge load on the abdominal muscles, have a problem going to the toilet. For urination in the maternity hospital there are catheters (a nurse will help), but for more serious things you will need a candle (by the way, not everyone).
  13. If you attended any courses for pregnant women during pregnancy, then you are just great! They give a lot of useful information there. You can take cheat sheets from courses for pregnant women take it with you to the birth - they might come in handy. But from my own experience I can say that during contractions there is no time for reading.

PACKAGE No. 2. Postpartum

It is not necessary to take this package with you to the birth. It can become an unnecessary burden for you. But be sure to let your loved ones know that this important package needs to be delivered to you as soon as possible after the birth.

  1. Cream "Bepanten" for nipples and instead baby cream for the baby. You can use a cheaper substitute - BORO Plus cream. It costs about 50-60 rubles at any pharmacy, but it seems to me that Bepanten is even better. Nipples tend to crack during the first breastfeeding. And for the baby, this cream (both Bepanten and BORO) does not pose a danger. That is, you can, for example, smear the nipple and immediately feed the baby.
  2. Bra pads. Many mothers use diapers folded several times as bra pads, since when the milk arrives, no store-bought pads will save you. Although it's different for everyone.
  3. I advise you to take a larger size, since after childbirth the milk comes in and the breasts will increase. It is also desirable that it be seamless and/or with hooks (so that both “breasts” can be unfastened). Seams can rub and irritate the skin. And, of course, the composition is 100% cotton - synthetics do not allow the skin to “breathe”, and irritation may occur again.
  4. A towel for yourself. I believe that it will be enough to take only 1 towel measuring 70x50 cm. For the face and hands you can use paper napkins. Again, so as not to load the bag.
  5. Towel for baby. From the very first days the baby will need to be washed. It is not necessary to bring a huge bath towel or a baby towel with a hood, since you won’t get your head wet anyway. A towel measuring 70x50 cm will be enough. Many mothers are against washing the baby under the tap in the room. And I support them - the water is not boiled, with chlorine, and it can also be cool in the room... Therefore, it is worth using baby wipes.
  6. Baby wipes, if you don’t want to wash your baby’s bottom under the tap. But it is worth keeping in mind that many children become allergic to the lotion with which these wipes are soaked. Be careful when choosing.
  7. Children's things - rompers, a couple of caps, warm undershirts. Unless, of course, you use diapers. I observed children who were categorically against swaddling - they do not sleep, cry, bend over... And with untied hands - in a vest and romper - they sleep in a sweet dream. Therefore this needs to be taken into account. However, I can advise the following: it is not necessary to take it immediately to the birth. You can then call your relatives and ask them to bring everything you need. Capture also baby socks. May rub your heel against your heel. When purchasing, pay attention to the tightness of the elastic (the elastic should not squeeze the baby’s leg) and the composition (100% cotton).
  8. Shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, toilet paper. It is better to take liquid soap. Or use shampoo as soap. Again, to make bags lighter. Toilet paper can be replaced with regular paper napkins.
  9. Comb, mirror.
  10. Cup. You can take your own set of dishes if you really want to.
  11. . Not necessary, but take it just in case. Sterilize at home first - there is simply no place to do this in the ward.
  12. . Many mothers put their baby in diapers from the first day of the baby’s life. In addition, you can get there on a long weekend (for example, March 8). The laundry does not work, they provide few clean diapers. So in this case, diapers will definitely be needed. But be prepared in the morning to answer the question how many times the baby has peed and pooped over the past 24 hours.
If you're lucky, you might end up on a day when baby diaper manufacturers are holding promotions. Then everyone who gives birth is given bags with diapers and all sorts of creams and oils for the baby as samples. However, no one knows the exact days when these representatives visited. Therefore, it is still better to take your own diapers from home.
  13. A book or crossword puzzle, a pen. On the 3-4th day you will get bored: the baby will sleep all day, and you will already have recovered from childbirth.
  14. Small money. Usually in maternity hospitals there are kiosks with all sorts of necessities such as pads, toothpaste, brushes, etc.

The maternity hospital gives out:

  1. Diapers. A pile for everyone is brought to each ward in the morning, the next morning the dirty diapers are taken away and the next batch is brought. I want to say that the appearance of these diapers, of course, is not very good - yellow, washed out, some with stains... However, no one will allow you to use your own, and in the maternity hospital these diapers are washed and boiled.
  2. Blanket for the baby.
  3. Robe with nightgown (nightie). Nighties change every day in the morning.
  4. Dishes(plate, spoon).
  5. Bed sheets.

If possible, just in case, check with the place where you are going to give birth for a list of permitted things. Each has its own nuances. By the way, in many maternity wards you can wear your own clothes.

You should try to collect all this in advance, so that in a hurry later in the middle of the night you don’t have to remember what to take and what is not needed. But if it doesn’t work out, don’t panic, but calmly take what you need and have a good journey!

No. But you will have to carry them yourself. For example, during my first birth I had to go from one prenatal room to another, plus registration, plus going up to the third floor to the prenatal room. Everyone carries their own bags; orderlies and nurses will not do this. So imagine the scale. You need to take as little as possible, then someone will take you (mom, sister, brother, piles, friend, anyone). I think you will also have an assistant

Gantelechka (27/04/2018)

So, I didn’t really understand... If there is no husband, if there is no one AT ALL who could bring me something to the maternity hospital, and it is also written that upon admission, clothes must be handed over to the accompanying person. What if it’s not there???? Won't they accept me with three bags and clothes??? I'm going to give birth in 2.

I wanted to clarify about the Molipants fishnet panties!...The panties-shorts in individual packaging are reusable, they can be washed and they dry very quickly! And the panties are in a pack of 5 pieces. - disposable.

PREPARATION FOR CHILDREN: WHAT YOU WILL NEED IN THE MATERNITY HOSPITAL

About two to three weeks before giving birth, you need to collect things that you and your baby may need. If you have already decided on a maternity hospital or personal doctor, contact them to find out a list of everything you both need during childbirth. There are maternity hospitals that themselves issue such a list, in others you can only use hospital supplies.
It is better to sort all the prepared things: separate packages for yourself for childbirth and for discharge, and also for the baby - for the maternity hospital and for discharge. Familiarize your dad with all the collected things so that he doesn’t have to hastily look in your closet for an outfit suitable for discharge. It often happens that out of excitement, dads get confused and bring moms something completely different from what was ordered, and this, naturally, worsens the mood of the happy mother in labor. It's better to protect dad and yourself from unnecessary stress.

So what is needed in the maternity hospital?

First of all, the documents:
Agreement with the maternity hospital (personal doctor) or referral to the maternity hospital. It is advisable to conclude an agreement with a personal doctor before the 35-36 week period, and it is better to do this as early as possible. If you have any questions, be sure to discuss them with your doctor in advance; it is especially important to find out whether the doctor’s idea of childbirth matches your idea. Many mothers we have encountered at child care consultations, at mommy school, or at massages recommend childbirth under an agreement with a personal doctor.
Executed exchange card with the results of the analyzes performed.
Ultrasound results (if available).
Insurance policy.
Passport.
Address of the maternity hospital, telephone number of the personal doctor.
Coins, tokens or a telephone so you can keep in touch with your loved ones.
The following are things for childbirth:
A nightgown or loose, warm T-shirt that is fairly long and has three-quarter sleeves.
Warm cotton socks, but not wool ones.
Washable slippers.
Mineral still water for drinking during childbirth. You can pour special herbal tea for childbirth into a thermos. Find out if light food is allowed in the maternity hospital.
The information received on practical exercises. Even if you fail to use it, the thought that you are fully equipped will give you confidence and lift your spirits.
Medium terry towel.
Face wipes so you can wipe away sweat or apply a wet wipe to your lips and forehead.
If the maternity hospital allows it, you can take a player with your favorite music, magazines, or just beautiful pictures, a tennis ball, a large inflatable ball - you never know what a woman in labor might want...

The third group includes things needed after childbirth:
A shirt that buttons in the front for ease of feeding, a thin robe (usually the wards for mothers and children are warm).
Hygiene supplies - toothpaste, toothbrush, toilet paper, soap, comb, nourishing cream.
Sanitary pads with maximum absorbency for the first postpartum days. Afterwards you will need 2-3 packs of breathable pads, maybe thinner.
Special disposable hygiene panties. They are made in the form of mesh, which makes them light and provides ventilation, so necessary in the first few days after birth. Also suitable are cotton panties made from very thin fabric with holes. You may have to use only a diaper without panties.
Those with weak nipples may need disposable breast pads that absorb milk. You can take a milk collector with you to keep your nipples dry. It is a plastic sink that prevents milk from leaking out. It needs to be washed thoroughly in advance.
For those with inverted nipples, it is advisable to prepare special sombrero covers to make sucking more comfortable for the baby. With this method, he receives milk through the hole. When feeding, the pads are held by hand. They also need to be washed thoroughly.
An analgesic nipple cream used for cracks and abrasions.
Nourishing cream for face and hands.
Two bras that fasten at the front for easy feeding.
Prepare sterile gauze pads just in case.
Suppositories with glycerin or herbal tea having laxative properties. You may need an enema.
Cotton socks.
You should definitely find out the list of products that are accepted in the hospital after childbirth. It is also necessary to study what you can and cannot eat while breastfeeding, taking into account the characteristics of each season (spring, summer, autumn, winter). The person who will carry you at this time of transmission should be aware of these things. During the first few months, you need to be careful about the foods you eat, especially in the summer.
Plastic bags can be useful for dirty laundry.

The following group includes things for the baby:

Don't forget that your child needs clothes too. Be sure to clarify what you will need to care for him in the maternity hospital, and what to prepare for discharge.

As a rule, maternity hospitals require diapers. Please note that not diapers, but diapers. You shouldn’t buy a whole package at once: they simply may not suit your baby, and he will develop rashes. It is better to buy a small batch of diapers and monitor the child’s reaction over time. Choose diapers depending on the gender and weight of the child, paying attention to their quality.

The choice of baby clothes depends on the time of year and your preferences. Usually in the maternity hospital the child is put on a diaper, a thin and warm vest, a cap, and then diapers. Linen in mandatory changes every day, and if necessary, then several times a day. In advanced maternity hospitals, you can dress children just like adults: T-shirts, overalls, caps, mittens and, of course, diapers. That is, the baby is not swaddled.

Often in maternity hospitals they insistently offer to bottle-feed the baby. You need to know that supplementary feeding with formula, supplementation with glucose solution or boiled water can lead to the introduction of infection into the child’s body. Feeding a baby anything other than mother's milk in the first days after birth can lead to dysbiosis, diathesis, or the development of allergies. In addition, while sucking on the mother's breast, the baby's tongue muscles work, and when feeding from a nipple, the baby's cheek muscles are used. Therefore, having become acquainted with a pacifier in such early age, the child can later use Wrong way sucking. This causes early breast weaning, poor tongue muscle development, and sometimes even speech problems. And for the mother, this is fraught with a decrease in lactation. The decision about supplementary feeding and supplemental feeding of your baby is up to you, so you have the right to refuse urgent offers from the medical staff.

WHO/UNICEF Declaration of Support breastfeeding infants, states that feeding or supplementing newborns with anything other than mother’s milk is contraindicated. The exception is the need for complementary feeding for medical reasons. Despite this, doctors often act contrary to the provisions of the World Health Organization.

And the last, fifth group, which includes items for discharge
Most often, upon discharge, both mother and baby dress in their own clothes. But it happens that maternity hospitals give a set of diapers, cosmetics or a set of diapers as a gift. It is necessary to collect clothes in advance for this solemn day taking into account weather conditions. It is better to use a diaper instead of a gauze diaper.
No one will force their decision on you on how to dress your baby upon discharge. You can choose thin and thick vests or a T-shirt with a light, warm overall. As a rule, a vest is put on, and the child is wrapped in two diapers - thin and thick.
Two pairs of socks (thin and thick) and shoes.
When choosing a headdress, it is better to give preference to a light scarf rather than a cap, and put a cap on top depending on the weather.
A light or warm blanket (depending on the weather), a ribbon and a corner are used as outerwear. You can use an envelope instead of a blanket. Then the child puts on a warm blouse, trousers, and warm socks over a light, warm overall. The thickness of the envelope depends on the season.
Just in case, stock up on a handkerchief or napkin.
A copy of the exchange card for yourself and the baby.
Certificate from the registry office for registering a child.
Conclusion about the baby's health with recommendations. Be sure to find out about any procedures your child has had and any medications he or she has received.
And most importantly: flowers for mom, the first rattle for the newborn, and the best smile in the world for dad.

When you leave the hospital, notify your pediatrician about the birth of your baby so that you can be visited by a visiting nurse.

You need to get ready for the maternity hospital in advance, since you will need quite a lot of things, and to buy them you will have to visit several stores, and besides, the process of getting ready for the maternity hospital takes a lot of effort and time. In addition, the closer the moment of childbirth, and especially to the beginning of contractions, the pregnant woman becomes too irritable, emotional, and sometimes even aggressive and there will be no time to get ready, which is why it is worth getting ready in advance.

To make it easier to get ready for the maternity hospital, it is worth dividing all the necessary things into three main packages: in the first you need to put things that will be needed during childbirth, the second package will be brought to you in the postpartum ward, and the third package should contain things for discharge from the maternity hospital. If you are going to give birth together with your husband (or someone else), then you should also pack a separate bag for him. Each of these bags is worth labeling, or even better if you include a list of what's in there.

To make it easier to get ready, and so that you don’t miss anything, you should familiarize yourself with the proposed list of things and adjust it for yourself, depending on your individual needs, habits, and the rules established by the maternity hospital (it’s better to clarify them in advance), which should your baby will be born.

The first package is “birthday”, it will contain those things that you will take immediately when leaving home for the maternity hospital, and that will be useful to you during childbirth.

  3. Sandwiches or other snack
  4. Rubber slippers
