Feminine floor-length skirt: ideas and patterns…. Pattern and sewing of a long skirt Floor-length straight skirt made of thick fabric

Summer is in full swing! The period of vacations and travel. Right now I want to treat myself to a beautiful new thing. So why deny yourself? Our tutorial will help you sew a simple summer skirt. Simple, but very effective and stylish. We have chosen three models of skirts for you: Floor-length skirt, tiered skirt and wrap skirt. We hope you will like them. So let's begin.

Skirt to the floor

The first model is a chic, light, floor-length chiffon skirt. If the fabric is sheer, you can add a lining. Of course, it is best to use natural fabrics (chiffon, veil, voile, cambric).
There are two ways to sew such a skirt. The first one is based on a rectangle. Suitable for thin fabrics and those who are not afraid to add volume to the waist. Everything is simple here, even a beginner can handle it. Two rectangular pieces of fabric equal to the length of the skirt (we have 100 cm), width - the width of the fabric, sew along the side seams, gather the top cut to a length equal to the girth of the hips + 4 cm. Sew the belt (ironed in the middle, lengthwise, and worked into a ring , strip of fabric). Insert an elastic band into the belt, like a drawstring, the width of the elastic is equal to the width of the belt. Finish the bottom of the skirt with a hem seam.

The second method is somewhat more complicated (a half-circle skirt with gathering at the waist), but it creates a very beautiful effect - the skirt turns out to be flowing, much wider towards the bottom and less gathered at the waist. You will need a lot more fabric, but the result is worth it!
We cut the fabric into a spread. In our case, the width of the fabric is 140 cm. The length of the skirt is 100 cm. We set aside the length of the skirt from the upper right corner of the fabric along the transverse thread of the fabric. The remaining 40 cm is the radius of the circle - the waist line. Further, the entire construction is clearly shown in the diagram and will not be difficult.
The main difficulty that will arise when sewing a skirt is adjusting its length. To ensure that the skirt does not stretch out during wear, the skirt, which has already been finished along the side seams and the top edge, needs to be hung out for a day. That is, attach it to clothes hangers in a hanging position and leave it hanging. After this, trim the bottom line, focusing on the distance to the floor, putting it on a figure or mannequin. Hem the hem with a seam.
We suggest making a skirt consisting not of two quarters of a circle, but of three or four! Of course, this depends on the properties of the fabric and its thickness. The skirt will turn out gorgeous!

The skirt lining is cut as one of the segments of the main skirt, i.e. a quarter circle. The length of the waist line on the lining should be no less than the circumference of the hips + 4 cm. First, we calculate the length of the skirt, taking into account its width along the upper section. Let’s substitute the known values into the formula (2*P *X)/4 = Hip circumference + 4 cm. And having solved the equation with one unknown - X (radius of the circle), we obtain the expected length of the lining skirt.
(2*3.14*X)/4=92+4
6.28X/4=96
X=61 cm - radius. With a fabric width of 140 cm, the length of the lining is 140-61 = 79 cm minus the increase for processing seams. Construction of the lining on the diagram.

The length of the waistline on the skirt must be gathered to the size of the lining. Baste the skirt and skirt lining together, connecting the top edges. Next, apply a stitched belt with an elastic band, as in the previous case.

Tiered skirt

In order to sew a tiered skirt, we will need a pattern for the base of a straight skirt.

Based on a pattern We outline the length of the upper part of the skirt (yoke) - 30 cm. Cut off the excess. The darts can be left, or they can be moved down by cutting from the bottom of the yoke to the top of the dart and opening the dart to the bottom. (You can also move the entire dart on the front panel to the bottom, and only part of the dart on the back, leaving ½ at the waist).

Next, measure the length of the lower cut of the yoke and multiply it by 2. Because. Our pattern is in half size.
Cut out the next two tiers in the form of rectangles with a width equal to the length of the tier. The first rectangle is equal to the width of the fabric. Or, if you want to make the skirt fuller and the properties of the fabric allow it, calculate the length as shown in the figure.
The second rectangle (last tier) is two or one and a half times the width of the fabric. Or according to the diagram.

The first tier, its upper cut, should be assembled to the length of the lower cut of the yoke. Connect.
Gather the second tier along the upper cut to the length of the lower cut of the first tier, connect together.
Finish the upper section of the skirt with a stitched belt with a length equal to the waist circumference. Side seam closure with a zipper. Seam the bottom of the skirt with a hem.

Wrap skirt

A wrap skirt is essential in your vacation wardrobe. Comfortable and beautiful at the same time. To sew it, choose flowing fabric, for example, silk, viscose, thin viscose silky knitwear.
For sewing, we will again need a pattern for the base of the skirt.

First you need to move the darts to the bottom. And open their solution by turning the pattern pieces. See picture.
Next, we will lengthen and make patterns as shown in the figure.

Let's mark the line of the skirt's wrap on the details of the front panel of the skirt in a spread.
Treat the upper section of the skirt with a belt equal to the length of the upper section of the skirt, insert cords made from fabric into the edge of the belt for ties around the waist. On the right side of the belt, make a welt loop for threading ties. Finish the bottom of the skirt with a hem stitch.
Our skirts are ready! You did a great job with the sewing. It's really easy to sew a summer skirt. The main thing is to approach the task creatively and with love! Enjoy wearing it and have a wonderful summer!

There are two ways to sew a product with your own hands. First: use difficult-to-understand diagrams and drawings. Second: using ready-made drawings and several measurements, quickly and efficiently create the necessary product with your own hands. In this article we will talk about the second method.

How to quickly sew a long skirt

To sew a long skirt, you will need little: suitable material, threads to match the fabric, chalk, a measuring tape, a sewing machine, and needles for fastening if you need them.

It is immediately necessary to identify several features of skirt tailoring. Firstly, if you are not sure that you can make the stitches perfectly even, then it is best to take threads that match the fabric. Secondly, it is more difficult to work with flowing and stretchy materials. Therefore, choose a dense material that will not deform or stretch while sewing the skirt.

And it’s also worth noting that even if you perfectly sew a skirt from cheap material, the product will not turn out to be of high quality. Therefore, even if you decide to save on tailoring by doing it yourself, you cannot save on fabric if you want to wear a skirt for walks, on visits and to work.

The easiest way to sew a skirt is from two or four wedges. You will need the following data: waist circumference, hip circumference and product length. one wedge (we take a pattern for a skirt consisting of 4 wedges.)

  1. On paper, draw a vertical line, the length of which is equal to the length of the product plus 1 centimeter for seams and 4-8 centimeters depending on the width of the elastic band on which the skirt will be held.
  2. From the vertical line in any direction, measure a distance equal to 1/8 of the width of your hips.
  3. From the new point down, also draw a straight vertical line.
  4. Now you need to determine the angle of expansion of the skirt. If you want it to be comfortable to walk in a skirt, but the product is not very wide, then it is best to choose 25-30 centimeters.
  5. Since this drawing is 1/2 of a wedge (and you will cut the wedge by using the pattern twice, placing it in a mirror position), you need to measure 15 centimeters from the bottom point of the product and draw a new line reaching the upper extreme point of the pattern.
  6. Also, do not forget to measure 0.5 cm horizontally from the middle vertical line and do the same with the top point of the second vertical line. This will be the waist line. You can see the drawing more clearly in the figure below.

How to sew a long warm skirt

Whatever fabric you choose, you need to wash and dry it before cutting. This is especially true for warm woolen fabrics, as they tend to “shrink” a few centimeters after the first wash. Very thick fabrics are a little more difficult to work with. It is worth remembering that the midline of the pattern must coincide with the grain of the fabric. The grain thread is the main direction of the fabric; when purchasing in a store, you can ask a consultant to help you position the fabric correctly when cutting.

How to sew a long skirt with elastic

Sewing a skirt with elastic is the easiest sewing method. To do this, you need to decide in advance what width of elastic band you will use. For thicker fabrics, an elastic band of 4-6 centimeters is better; for thinner summer fabrics, an elastic band of 3 centimeters is sufficient. In any case, when cutting, you need to add the width of the elastic, multiplied in half + 1 cm for the seams, to the length of the product.

  1. First you need to fold the fabric 0.3-0.5 cm on top and stitch it from the inside.
  2. After this, fold the fabric again to the width of the elastic + 0.5 cm to spare, so that the elastic can be easily inserted into the resulting “pocket”. When hemming the product a second time, you need to leave a distance of 5 cm (approximately) in the seam through which you will insert the elastic. This can be done by hand or using a pin to make it easier to move the elastic between the fabrics.
  3. Then you need to sew the elastic, and then sew up the remaining distance in the seam of the skirt. With this method, the elastic will be inside the skirt, it will not be visible at all, and the skirt will look neat even from the inside out.

How to sew a long chiffon skirt

Chiffon is a more capricious material. You can also sew a skirt from it from 2, 4 or 8 wedges, but it is worth considering some features. Chiffon is a very thin material, so a skirt made of it should be lined. For lining, you need to choose a thin but opaque lining material. The lining wedges are cut according to the same pattern, but the length of the lining wedges should be 2-4 centimeters less so that the lining is not visible. The edges of the chiffon and lining must be overlocked and secured with an elastic band or belt, depending on the method you choose to fit the skirt.

How to sew a long pleated skirt

To sew a pleated skirt, you need to choose a larger expansion angle of 50 centimeters, then your skirt will lie in beautiful waves. At the end of the article there is a video instruction on how to sew a pleated skirt.

How to sew a long skirt for a girl

It is somewhat easier to sew a skirt for a girl, using the same drawing diagram, but based on the child’s measurements. It can be made to expand straight from the waist, and at the waist itself the fabric can be fastened with an elastic band. It is important to remember that comfort is important to the child! Therefore, it is better to make a skirt from light fabric with a large expansion angle.

This is not the first season that a long skirt has been the focus of close attention among fashion designers. It’s not surprising, because this piece of clothing gives the image incredible femininity and mystery. Thinking about how to sew a long skirt? Believe me, there is nothing complicated about this. Let's look at several tailoring options.

Choosing material

Before sewing a long skirt, decide on the material. To create a summer skirt, buy a piece of chiffon, thin cotton, viscose or silk. For a model designed for the off-season, fine wool or thick knitwear is preferable. The fabric should drape well and lay in soft folds.

How to sew a long skirt with elastic quickly and easily

This is one of the easiest ways. It is necessary to take the following measurements: waist circumference and length of the future product. Next, we build a pattern on paper, as shown in Figure 1. A = first measurement + 3 cm, B = A + 22 cm, C = second measurement + 5 cm for allowances. Fold the fabric in half with the wrong side facing out. Place the pattern diagonally and cut it out (Figure 2). Now connect the side seams and sew the waistband into the hem. All that remains is to process the hem and insert the elastic. The result is a comfortable skirt with a slight flare. If you want to make it more romantic, you can cut out and sew a flounce along the hem.

How to sew a long skirt with tiers

This model looks especially advantageous on slender, tall girls. Sewing it is not difficult, but you will need two types of fabric: light (cotton, chiffon) for the tiers and knitted for the base. Take the following measurements: waist circumference, hip circumference, product length. First you need to prepare the base. Draw a rectangle, the length of which is equal to the length of the skirt, and the width of the half-circumference of the hips. Then make the waist area a little narrower so that the product fits well on your figure. And slightly widen the bottom of the skirt from the knee to make it comfortable to walk. Finish the side and bottom seams and insert an elastic band into the waistband. We make tiers like this: we cut out strips of the required width, and process one edge using an overlocker. We sew the second edge, tighten the thread to create folds. We sew the finished tiers onto the base. They should be placed slightly overlapping so that the base is not visible. Another variation of this model is when the tiers are stitched on both sides, the thread is pulled together and the tiers are sewn together. In this case, you don’t have to make a base.

How to sew a long skirt with slits in the front

This model reveals her legs and looks very sexy. It must be sewn from thin flowing fabric, for example, chiffon. We will also need a wide elastic band for the belt. We measure the half-circumference of the waist, hips and the length of the future product. We lay out the material in one layer with the wrong side, build two rectangles (front and back). The length of the front is equal to the length of the skirt, the width is the half-circumference of the hips. The length of the back is also equal to the length of the product, and the width is two half-circumferences of the hips. First, we sew, slightly gathering, a small rectangle to the belt. Find the center of the elastic band and sew on a large rectangle. This must be done so that it slightly covers the front part on the sides. Places where two rectangles overlap each other need to be sewn up. We process the free edges of all parts.

Now you know how to sew a long summer skirt. Wear it with loose tops, a denim jacket and flat shoes. Create your own unique skirt and be on trend this summer!

Sewing a simple floor-length skirt is not difficult even for a novice craftswoman. After all, you can do without a pattern; it will be enough to take just a few measurements. In this article we will analyze in detail what needs to be measured and how, how to cut out parts and sew. For those who don’t want to bother with drawing, I offer ready-made free patterns for a long skirt, which can be downloaded at the end of the article.

How to create a floor-length skirt pattern

First we need to decide on the fabric. It is desirable that it stretches in the transverse direction. Otherwise, the skirt will hinder movement.

Required measurements:

  • Waist circumference,
  • Hip circumference (optional measurement, needed for verification),
  • Length from waist to outer foot.
  • Step length (needed so that the skirt does not hinder movement).

With the first three measures, I think there should be no questions. But to measure the length of the step, or rather, it would be even better to say the circumference, you need to take your usual step and measure the circumference with a centimeter tape, clasping your ankles.

On fabric folded in half, set aside a quarter of the OT on top, for example, if your waist is 68 cm, then you will need to set aside 17 cm + seam allowance.

We set aside the length along the fold line, for example 90 cm. From the resulting point we set aside a quarter of the step circumference. So, if your measurement of this value was 88 cm, then you will need to set aside at least 22 cm. Of course, you can measure more, but if you take a smaller segment, keep in mind that walking in a skirt will not be very comfortable. To correct the situation, you will have to make a cut, but we sew without it.

Finally, check to see if the skirt is tight at the hips. To do this, measure approximately 18-20 cm below the waist and measure the width in this area, it should be at least a quarter of the circumference of your hips. If you have a narrow waist and very wide hips, you will have to slightly increase the waist mark and increase the width of the lower section by the same amount.

Method No. 2. According to the method of Marlene Mukai.

Marlene Mukai suggests creating a long skirt pattern using the hip circumference as a basis. Below are drawings of such skirts. We see that initially a rectangle is drawn, the width of which is a quarter of the OB. We measure a quarter OT from the top, and another quarter OB is laid down from the edge of the rectangle. The edges of the skirt need to be slightly rounded. In my opinion, Marlene Mukai’s patterns are one of the most accurate and at the same time simple. By the way, all measurements in the drawings are indicated taking into account allowances. Size chart below.

How to sew a maxi skirt

Cut out the pattern pieces. Place them right sides together and sew the side seams. Fold the bottom.

To process the top, cut a strip of fabric, the length of which will be equal to OT, the width will be approximately 20 cm. Fold it in half and sew it to the upper section of the skirt. If you have very wide hips and the fabric is not elastic, you can cut a longer strip and then insert an elastic band into it or sew on rubber veins.

Other options for maxi skirts

Here are some more options for long skirts. The size chart for these drawings is the same as for the Marlene Mukai patterns.

Summer is coming. Every girl wants something fresh for the summer season, and thinks about how to sew a blouse, sundress, or skirt. Today we will look at as quickly as possible, without complex patterns, sew a long skirt for summer with your own hands. A maxi skirt in a half-sun style is suitable for almost any figure.

What fabric to choose for a summer skirt?

  • Natural linen. This fabric does not create a greenhouse effect, it is not hot, your body breathes in a linen product, and holds its shape well.
  • Chintz. The fabric is light and helps to withstand hot days, but more often it is used for sewing bed linen.
  • Satin. Smooth, silky front surface and matte back. With prolonged use, satin practically does not shrink, which cannot be said about chintz. Its shrinkage occurs during the production process. The fabric is first bleached, then dyed, and the dye is fixed.
  • Batiste. Translucent, flowy, thin linen or cotton fabric. Batiste lays beautifully in folds and drapes. Thin denim - chambry. Very thin, used mainly for sewing lightweight garments.
  • Veil. Thin, translucent, airy fabric that lifts your spirits.
  • Crepe de Chine. Things made from it are strong and durable. The fabric is light, beautiful, and does not wrinkle. Translated from French as “Chinese silk”.

How to cut a long flared half-sun skirt quickly for summer.

The “sun” and “half-sun” methods are considered the simplest.

1. Please note that the sun skirt is cut out without seams.

Half-sun skirt with one seam.

To cut out a half-sun you only need two measurements: waist circumference and length. Cuts right away without patterns.

How to do the calculation.

Considering that our skirt will be without a fastener and it should be easy to put on and take off, you need to add 15–20 cm to the waist circumference.

E.g., Ob.t. 80 + 20 = 100 cm.

To process the bottom, add 2 cm to the length of the skirt.

For example, Dl.yu. 105 cm + 2 = 107 cm.

We will calculate the construction of the half-sun using formulas.

Radius of the circle of the upper cut (1R) = Volume: 3 = 100:3 = 33 cm.

Radius of the circle of the lower cut (2R) = 1R + Length. (with fold) = 33 + 106 = 139 cm.

Fabric calculation.

To find out the yardage of fabric needed for the skirt, the resulting value is 139 cm, multiply by 2 = 278 cm. Taking into account that the width of the fabric must be at least 140 cm.

How to save matter.

We lay out the fabric on the table, measure along the edge the value 2R - 139 cm. From this point we draw a semicircle with a radius of 33 cm, a second with a radius of 139 cm.

Second cutting method. The fabric needs to be folded in half in width. From the angle, mark two values. When sewing the belt, so that the length of the skirt does not decrease, add 1 cm to the cut of the smaller circle.

The belt is cut from the remnants of the fabric; its length is equal to the upper semicircle of the skirt.

If the skirt is too wide, the fabric consumption increases; to save fabric, try cutting out a “half-sun” with two side seams.

Skirt sewing technology.

  • We connect and process the side sections of the half-sun and the details of the belt.
  • We connect the top section of the skirt with the belt. We thread the elastic band (elastic band).
  • We process the bottom cut.
  • If the fabric is translucent, we put it on a lining or make a double one with a difference in length.

Long semi-sun skirt.

What to wear with a long skirt.

Every woman has a long skirt in her wardrobe; with its help you can hide imperfections and figuratively increase your height. But it's not that simple! It is necessary to choose the right top, shoes and accessories.

There is an unspoken rule how to choose a top for a long skirt. If the skirt is full, then the jacket, blouse, or T-shirt should be tight-fitting. If the skirt is tight, then it is better to choose the top a little loose. A multi-colored, motley skirt looks advantageous when the top is plain, and vice versa, with a calm bottom, the blouse can be bright and have intricate patterns. In order not to spoil your figure, choose a top in darker colors for a light long skirt.

Accessories for a long skirt. Accessories for the neck can be large, but with the condition that the top of the ensemble is plain. A belt is another decoration that will complement the look and emphasize the waist and chest line. Ideal option handbags for long skirts- a clutch with a long strap that can be carried in your hands.

Shoes to go with a long skirt. To go with this skirt, you can choose sandals with wedges or high heels. In any case, the style of shoes should be in harmony with the top of the outfit.
