Dry blue pastel;
Mold for leaves;

Let's start making the Christmas tree. For it, we will need a cone-shaped piece of foam, which can be found in a craft store, or a sheet of cardboard, from which you can easily make a cone yourself from a sheet of thick cardboard using a template. In this case, you can set the desired height of the Christmas tree yourself.

Tip: you can use foamiran of any color or several different shades to suit your taste, which is especially true if you are choosing holiday decor in a certain color scheme.

We cut foamiran into strips, which we then cut into approximately equal squares. The blanks do not have to be completely identical, so this can be done by eye. The main thing is that the dimensions of the “spruce paws” correspond to the scale of the Christmas tree itself: for a small tree about 10-15 cm high, small squares with a side of about 2 cm will be enough.

We cut the finished flats with fringe on both sides to make a kind of diamonds.

Now we get to the fun part! We carefully apply our workpieces to the hot surface, holding them by the uncut tip.

Reminder: be extremely careful and attentive when working with hot appliances and ensure the safety of children if they help you with your work!
The fringe will begin to bend and twist in literally half a minute, which means you can move on to the next detail. We bend all the blanks in this way.

When the “legs” are ready, all that remains is to glue them to the base in dense rows. Blanks of different colors can be alternated in rows or in a chaotic manner. We glue them with the “curly” side up, close to each other, so that there are no gaps and the curls are intertwined.

Foamiran is a flat synthetic sheet material, soft and silky to the touch.
Its main feature is its ability to stretch slightly (up to 10%). This stretching is often enough for the material to be able to accept and “remember” a new one. This material is especially well shaped when exposed to the warmth of human hands (it does not get dirty or sticky). You can safely squeeze and twist the flexible suede, stretching it slightly. The material will easily take a new shape. However, excessive tension will cause the foamiran to rupture. The elasticity and relative strength of the material are due to the fact that foamiran contains ethylene and vinyl acetate. Foam becomes plastic and pliable when slightly heated. It is enough to apply a cut out figure from foamiran to an iron set to the “linen” temperature setting for three to four seconds and you can give it the desired shape: stretch, compress, push (crush), etc. At the same time, it can stretch quite well (by 10%) or shrink.. Someone uses a hairdryer, and someone heats it over a candle. Small petals and leaves are applied to the barrel of a glue gun for heating.

Plastic suede, with a sheet thickness of about 1 mm, is easily cut with scissors and cut out with shaped composters, as well as special cutting machines.
The most common shaped and edge composters work just fine: the slot pattern in each case is clear and even.

Difficulties can arise only if you want to glue various foamiran parts together. Conventional types of glue are not suitable for this purpose. To assemble parts from foamiran, it is most convenient to use a glue gun, second glue, “Moment” glue, although there are also special glues.
For “dry” joining of elements made of plastic suede, metal brads, which are typical, for example, for the Scrapbooking technique, are well suited.
Foamiran has a slightly pronounced porous structure (“porous rubber”, “foam”), but at the same time has low water absorption. It washes well, is resistant to atmospheric influences and chemicals, non-toxic and harmless to the environment.
Foamiran is easily painted with any paint. Thanks to its porous structure, the paint is deeply absorbed into the material, so it is not afraid of even rain. You can tint the petals with stamp pads for scrapbooking, acrylic, oil paints, oil crayons for pastels or regular eye shadow.
