Fashionable prints fall-winter 2020

It's getting colder outside and the time is coming when footer clothing becomes the most popular material. Cotton woven knitwear now dominates the modern wardrobe, leaving knitted items made of wool and acrylic far behind. Sweatshirts and sweatshirts have long since moved from the category of sportswear, and harmoniously fit into everyday and office style.

Autumn and winter are a time of dullness and depression, but an expressive drawing can restore peace of mind. A bright pattern on clothes in monochrome colors will add zest to your everyday ensemble. If everything is clear with women - designers offer them everything that is bright and eye-catching, and this is not disputed, then with men the issue is traditionally resolved somewhat differently. But not this season! The most fashionable men's prints, some taken from the women's assortment. Do you want to be on trend this year: a rose on a sweatshirt or a bouquet of flowers on warm hat will elevate you to the rank of the first fashionista.

Key trends worth noting:

  • The stripe remains relevant, so the Off-White brand is, as usual, in favor with its classic design.
  • Neon prints that glow in the dark are gaining popularity again.
  • Historical motifs are relevant, and these can be images of ancient cities and famous personalities of past centuries.
  • Pop art in black and white, and it doesn’t matter what is drawn: a portrait of Elvis Presley or a newspaper clipping.
  • Sports theme: a bomber jacket with a club emblem will be a must-have in the wardrobe in autumn 2020 young man not indifferent to fashion.
  • Military-style prints and camouflage colors are trending.

A special chic of autumn 2020 is layered clothing with prints, and the themes of the designs should not overlap. Comic or cartoon characters familiar from childhood can be combined with political slogans, and a Teddy bear with a heart or Kitty with the image of a punk rock band.

Sometimes a monochromatic wardrobe begins to bore even the most conservative matrons. And then clothes with prints, or, more simply put, with designs on the fabric, come to our aid. Thanks to prints, our wardrobe becomes more diverse and interesting. The fashion for prints changes just like the fashion for various shades and styles, but some of them are especially popular and loved by us. You are probably already familiar with them, but I will just remind you.

Argyll

The popular diamond pattern is named after historical region Argyll in Scotland. Historically, argyle was a traditional pattern of the Campbell clan, but this print gained particular popularity only in the 20th century. This happened thanks to the Pringle of Scotland company, which began producing luxury knitwear with an argyle pattern, after which this print became the calling card of the aristocracy. Since then, the pattern has not gone out of fashion. Argyle is made up of diamonds and squares that are arranged diagonally and intersected by diagonal lines. Color solutions with this print there are many. This pattern is especially popular on sweaters, vests, cardigans, dresses, scarves, socks and leg warmers.

Zigzag Missoni

The colorful zigzag is the hallmark of the Italian brand Missoni. When the married couple Ottavio and Rosita started their small business at that time producing knitwear, in their workshop it was possible to create only striped or smooth fabrics. But since they purchased the embroidery machine, zigzag pattern, which has now gained worldwide popularity. The Missoni brand is also famous for its impeccable, smooth seams and bright, cheerful colors. Zigzag decorates dresses, skirts, tops, sundresses, trousers, home knitwear, and accessories.

Paisley

The famous cucumber pattern is probably familiar to everyone. The main element of the print is a drop, or cucumber, with a slightly tapered end. This print is also called "Indian" or "oriental" cucumber. The pattern is considered very ancient. Some consider Persia to be the birthplace of paisley, others - India. There is also no consensus on what this pattern means: a flower, a drop, a cypress, a mango seed, a pine cone, or flames. The name of the print itself comes from the city of Paisley in Scotland, where in the 19th century inexpensive fabrics were produced that repeated this pattern on expensive oriental ones. It is believed that it was then that paisley gained enormous popularity. Over time, this pattern fell out of fashion, then it was revived by the hippie movement. After yet another oblivion, thanks to the founder of the Italian fashion house Etro (Girolamo Etro), paisley is experiencing another heyday today. This print is more relevant than ever and loved by fashionistas all over the world. It is used in clothing, shoes, accessories, decorative elements, and interior items. The paisley color scheme is striking in its diversity.

Goose foot

This two-tone print is believed to originate from Scotland. It gained particular popularity after the release of the movie Breakfast at Tiffany's. And thanks to the collections of Coco Chanel and Christian Dior, the “houndstooth” has firmly entered the world of fashion. Initially, the houndstooth was black and white, but over time the color scheme of the print became very diverse. This print has become a classic of elegance and femininity, and today it is at the peak of popularity.

Peas

Polka dot print has long been a favorite classic. And although it was not used in the Middle Ages, reminiscent of the diseases that were rampant at that time, later in history polka dots began to gain more popularity. The simple and cheerful print appeared in France in the 19th century, and came to Europe from North Africa. In Spain, polka dots have become extremely popular in flamenco dresses. Polka dots create a mood of lightness and femininity. It should be remembered that clothes with large polka dots can visually increase volume.

Plaid

Perhaps the most famous type of cell. She became famous for her kilts (tuar tan in Old Gaelic - "color of the area"). In Scotland, each of the clans designed and wove a checkered pattern from wool, by hand. You could tell where a person was from by the coloring. It is believed that the fashion for tartan was introduced by Queen Victoria of Britain. She loved everything Scottish and decorated her residence with tartan fabrics. This print is especially popular today in autumn and winter, when you want warmth and comfort, because we mostly (but not necessarily) know tartan from products made from woolen fabrics. Blankets, outerwear, skirts, dresses, kilts, warm accessories - these are the main, but not the only items with this print, beloved by many. There are many varieties of tartan, for every taste and color.

Christmas tree

The print, reminiscent of the arrangement of needles on a spruce branch, is a classic pattern that never goes out of style. Almost always the color scheme is restrained: gray, brown, black, olive, blue, but there are exceptions. The origin of this print is believed to be quite ancient. It goes well with other prints. Herringbone fabric is used mainly for autumn-winter wardrobes.

Meander

The famous ancient Greek ornament, which is a broken line at right angles. This print got its name from the winding Meander River in Asia Minor. In ancient times, it was believed that the meander symbolizes the flow of human life. The ornament is popular in textiles, architecture, and the collections of the Versace fashion house (the meander has become the hallmark of the brand). They like to decorate textiles, decorative elements, interior items, accessories, clothes (mostly hemlines, but not necessarily).

Pucci prints

The famous multi-colored prints created by designer Emilio Pucci are famous throughout the world. The joke about this fashionable Italian house is that you can see it a mile away. It is thanks to the kaleidoscope of shades and patterns, dynamic and colorful. Interestingly, when the designer first started his business in 1947, the clothes produced by his atelier, located in an ancient Florentine castle, were mostly monochromatic. This, of course, is hard to believe now. Because suddenly his works began to sparkle with previously unseen prints, based on ancient Florentine ornaments. These prints became his calling card. Bizarre, abstract, bright and unusual, they have captivated fashionistas all over the world.

Paul Smith's Multicolored Zebra

This famous print of multi-colored stripes, also called a barcode, was invented by English designer Paul Smith. The fashion designer has won many awards, and he himself speaks so simply and accurately about his work: “In the early 80s, many people asked me: “What kind of fashion do you have?” Describer her". And I didn’t know what to answer them. But one day he simply said: “This is a classic with a surprise,” showing the lining of his jacket. And it stuck to my clothes, and everyone started using this phrase all over the world. I tried to change something, but this description of my style turned out to be the most suitable and works both for me and for people.” Unusual colors add variety to our everyday life. Like a reminder that life consists not only of black and white stripes, but also of delightful and bright moments.

LAD asked the people who best understand which T-shirt prints to wear about companies that specialize in bold chest designs. The editors added fifteen more prints from last summer to the comments.

It is very difficult to indicate any trend in prints on T-shirts - one company in one season can release in its collection T-shirts with fonts, photographs, and a bunch of other different prints. Therefore, it’s probably not worth talking about any trends in prints. If we talk about brands, then here I choose standard set: Supreme, their seasonal collaborations are especially interesting, Alife make very cool font prints and, what is important, witty and not at all vulgar, and the guys from Acapulco Gold.

The big leagues among T-shirt manufacturers are Original Fake and Perks and Mini (PAM). Although the fonts and characters for OF are drawn by renowned artist Brian Donnelly (KAWS) in his traditional “cartoon” style, they never seem too childish or vulgar. Perks and Mini was founded by Shona and Misha Hollenbach, a married couple with a colorful graffiti background in Melbourne, Australia. In their creativity they are guided by psychedelic motives. PAM prints almost always have cultural overtones and often reflect the experiences of various subcultures.

If we talk about European brands, then it’s worth mentioning Norse Projects - they have a special line of T-shirts with prints that are designed for them by modern European artists - you get a gallery of modern art on your T-shirt.

When it comes to trends in T-shirt prints, for me it's all about the gut. The same thing may be irrelevant today, but tomorrow it will have some kind of idea. To be clear: I have a T-shirt with a bright print that can sit in my closet for six months before I print it, but I wear others every day.

In general, for several years now everything has been striving for minimalism, and brands from which we always expect bright prints with imprints on large surfaces are taking and releasing logo T-shirts. Everyone has played enough with various printing technologies and focused on the quality of graphics, and we no longer see T-shirts that scream “check it out, we printed a cow with goose droppings”, and if embroidery or applique is used, then they are needed to show the volume in the design. As for summer, a swag trend has clearly emerged in Moscow, while in other cities, clear, self-explanatory or some more accessible prints are generally popular.

New prints have also appeared - shawl, degrade effect, tie dye and images in the Victorian style. Water and beach themes occupied a special place at the shows. Designers have spent a lot of effort to create a maritime mood in their collections.

Peas

You can't have too many peas in clothes. Whatever you wear: a skirt, dress or trousers with polka dots, you will always remain feminine and elegant. Polka dots of all stripes are in trend: large, small, bright, colorful or barely noticeable, in nude shades. But the most popular was and remains the classic black and white version.

Combined print

Combining predatory motifs, stripes, checks, polka dots and many other patterns in one outfit is not the most recent idea. A couple of seasons ago, the combined trend swept the fashion world. Moving from season to season, it was constantly changing. In the spring-summer 2019 season it will become brighter and more unusual. The trend is this: the more different prints appear on clothes, the greater the chances of getting into the trend. Up to 10 or more different patterns appeared in one bow.

If you are against colorful patchwork outfits, then you can combine only two prints made in the same color. The designers of the Escada fashion house followed this laconic path. They combined strict stripes and small polka dots into one stylish and feminine look.

Predatory motifs and reptile print

It’s not for nothing that imitation skins of snakes, crocodiles, leopards and tigers have been trending for so long. Predatory motifs recall the bold and free image of Amazon women. Leopard prints, zebra stripes or spotted snake patterns - any solution will look relevant in the warm season.

With his participation, unusual and unexpected compositions are created. Now the leopard pattern can be freely combined with flowers or adjacent to small peas, as in models from Antonio Marras.

Abstraction

For some, abstraction is an original way to express themselves. Someone “encrypts” a message to society in an extravagant drawing. And some people just like to look different from everyone else. With designs from Prada, Mugler and Issey Miyake, it's never been easier to differentiate yourself from the mainstream. Motifs from abstract paintings that adorn skirts, trousers and blouses from reputable fashion houses will effectively make you stand out from the crowd and will not let you get lost among the drab everyday life.

Fashion collections from Louis Vuitton and Valentin Yudashkin with bright strokes, dots, spots and other whimsical motifs will fill you with spring mood. After all, all this cacophony looks joyful and life-affirming.

Gradient and degrade

The ombre coloring technique is actively used not only in hairdressing. Nowadays, fabrics with various transitions from one color to another are gaining popularity. Previously, a gradient was fashionable, in which light colors smoothly flowed into dark shades the same color. Now several different colors can be used for ombre. Such models were found in the collections of Each x Other and Prabal Gururng. Gradient colors can be rich and quite contrasting.

But there is another trendy option - ombre in delicate, pastel colors. A similar technique was used by the brands Christian Dior, Alberta Ferretti and other style masters. The image turned out to be very airy, subtle and sophisticated.

Marine and beach theme

Is it possible to imagine summer without the sea, sun and palm trees? Of course not. So the designers did not ignore the theme of the sea and relaxation on the coast. Any prints associated with the water element and beach holidays are trending. The dream of the sea will become much closer with trendy collections from Anna Sui and Etro.

This is exactly what the experts of the Burberry fashion house did. The trousers from the famous British brand feature an English photo from the time of Queen Victoria. And this time, Irish designer Simone Rocha was inspired by the origins of history when creating his masterpieces.

This time, for ideas, he turned to two historical eras at once - Victorian England and oriental culture of the 16th century. Thus, on his exquisite outfits, images of portraits of the favorites of the rulers of the Tang dynasty and large flowers on tapestry fabrics appeared.

Small stripe

The stripes went beyond the usual black and white zebra or vest. Today, sophisticated stripes in pastel colors are in fashion. They should be subtle and not too different from the main white background. Models from Badgley Mischka and Brock Collection were made in this minimalist style.

Striped monolooks and styling with Latin American ethnic motifs are trending. Another hit of the spring-summer season 2019 is outerwear made of striped fabric.
