Military uniform

Each serviceman, depending on his military and special training, length of service and merit, occupies a certain military position and has a military rank. He can only hold one position. Each position corresponds to only one military rank. For example: the position of gunner, machine gunner, mechanic - driver usually corresponds to the rank of private; positions of company (battery) sergeant major - senior warrant officer; positions of regiment and brigade commander - colonel. The Federal Law “On Military Duty and Military Service” establishes a system of military ranks for all military personnel. The corresponding military rank is assigned personally to each military personnel. In the Armed Forces Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and bodies, the composition of military personnel and military ranks indicated in Table 7 are established.

The words “justice”, “medical service” or “veterinary service” are added to the military rank of military personnel with legal, medical or veterinary specialties, respectively. To the military rank of a citizen who is in the reserve or retired, the words “reserve” or “retired” are added, respectively.

The presence of personal military ranks in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation ensures clarity and clarity in the relationships and subordination of military personnel. Military rank reflects the level of general military and special training, service position and authority of each serviceman. In the context of military service, the scope of official, especially power, rights and rights to certain benefits depend not only on the position held by the serviceman, but often on his military rank. The assignment of military ranks to senior officers is carried out by the President of the Russian Federation; other military personnel are assigned by officials in accordance with the Regulations on the procedure for military service.

Military uniforms are divided into dress uniforms for and outside formations, casual uniforms for and out of formations, and field uniforms. And each of the above is for summer and winter. This uniform is made and worn in accordance with the Rules for Wearing Military Uniforms.

Persons called up for military service by conscription are issued military uniforms after their arrival at the place of service and enrollment in the lists of the unit. The presence of straps allows you to attach a sleeping bag, insulating mat and other items to the backpack. Items according to the established list are stored in the backpack (previously, duffel bags were used for this purpose).

Backpack for special forces military personnel is a product made of waterproof fabric with camouflage colors. The backpack kit includes a set of hanging bags of various sizes, a small-volume backpack, a heat-insulating mat for relaxing in the field, and a sealed hydrobag to protect the contents of the backpack from water when crossing water obstacles. Sleeping bag Designed for recreation of military personnel in the field. Thermal insulation mat Designed for use as a bedding under a sleeping bag. It is made of polyethylene foam and has high thermal insulation properties, providing the necessary conditions for a soldier to sleep (rest) in a sleeping bag on cold ground and even in snow. The mat on one side is brightly colored, which makes it easier to visually search for wounded military personnel.

The coloring of camouflage is usually a multicolor (2-4 colors) spotted pattern or pattern (large or small spots various colors), blurring and distorting the outlines of the fighter.

For the first time in the world, camouflage appeared in the “Khaki” coloring during the Boer War (1899-1902) - this war was fought for the independence of the Transvaal from England. Further, camouflage began to be actively used by various armies, and during the Second World War, Germany had about 30 different camouflage colors in service, some of them later migrated to the Soviet army (example: “birch” camouflage, which is used and modernized to this day.

Since the Cold War, camouflage has been divided into five large groups:
- “Forest” - “Woodland” - used mainly in Europe and America;

- “Desert” - “Desert” - used in North Africa and Central Asia:
- “Jungle” (tropical) - “Tropical Uniform” - used in Southeast Asia, South America;
- “Winter” is actually the winter camouflage itself, in which white colors predominate.
- “Bush” - “Bush” - used in Southern Africa, there are very few types of this camouflage, due to the limited terrain and countries.

Since the 1960s, the development of types of camouflage began to occur at a rapid pace and currently there are a huge number of types and colors of camouflage, ranging from military to commercial options. But at the same time, it is necessary to understand that there is no universal camouflage in principle; therefore, each color was created and designed to work only in environmental conditions and seasons specific to it.

There are several types of colors and names of camouflage types:

Army camouflage (Army camouflage used by the military of different countries);

Commercial camouflage (Commercial camouflage - those color variations that did not enter service with army units for some reason, and this moment are produced by certain companies (factories) exclusively for independent military units and fans of hunting or tactical games. Commercial types of camouflage also include variations of existing army colors, from which additional colors were excluded, or, conversely, added).

Separate sets are provided taking into account weather conditions and type of activity (specialty): the functionality of various elements of uniform also differs.

As an example, it is given that a set of uniforms for special forces, costing 160 - 190 thousand rubles, consists of 68 items. For soldiers and officers of motorized rifle units, the equipment is smaller and its cost is planned to be about 45 thousand rubles. Some uniform items have seven layers. Fabrics used for sewing field uniforms must prevent the influence of temperature changes on the serviceman and play a protective role.

After the collapse of the USSR, the Russian Armed Forces continued to wear military uniforms Soviet army and as they wore out, they replaced it with a new type of clothing approved in October 1992.

The adopted form differed significantly from the Soviet one in favor of simplification. According to the nomenclature, the new uniform contained 1.5 times fewer items than the uniform of the USSR Armed Forces.

First of all, in the Ground Forces, the sea-green officer's dress uniform and the steel-gray general's uniform were abolished. Colored shoulder straps, colored caps and buttonholes were abolished. Overcoats were replaced with “winter coats”, and jackets with jackets with patch pockets. Chevrons and stripes appeared on military uniforms, indicating membership in a particular branch of the military or a specific unit.

The sailors retained the color that has always been traditional for the Navy - black.

Shoulder straps on all types of military clothing have become reduced in size. Soviet officer tunics were replaced with tunics with patch pockets. A double-headed eagle was placed on the crown of the cap.

In accordance with Article 39 Federal Law dated March 28, 1998 No. 53-FZ “On military duty and military service” I decree:

1. Approve:

military uniforms of military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and bodies in accordance with Appendix No. 1;

a special ceremonial military uniform for servicemen of the honor guard of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in accordance with Appendix No. 2;

insignia according to military ranks of military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and bodies in accordance with Appendix No. 3.

2. The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, as well as, in agreement with it, other federal executive authorities that provide for military service, approve the description of items of military uniform.

3. Establish that:

the procedure for the production of military uniform items is determined by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the procedure for the production of military insignia and departmental insignia, as well as the rules for wearing military uniforms, military insignia, departmental insignia and other heraldic insignia are determined by the relevant federal executive body, in which military service is provided;

when military personnel switch to wearing a new military uniform, mixing items of existing and new military uniforms is allowed in the manner determined by the relevant federal executive body that provides for military service;

the uniform and insignia of persons who are not military personnel cannot be similar to the military uniform and insignia of military personnel, or confusingly similar to them, with the exception of the uniform and insignia of officers and warrant officers (midshipmen) transferred to the reserve or resignation with the right to wear military uniforms and insignia;

citizens called up for military training; trainees of military units; students in the Suvorov military, Nakhimov naval, military music schools and cadet (naval cadet) corps (music cadet corps, cadet schools and cadet boarding schools); civilian personnel of state maritime inspections for control in the field of protection of marine biological resources of border agencies of the federal security service; civilian personnel of regular song and dance ensembles, regular military orchestras of federal executive authorities, which provide for military service; certain categories of cadets and civilian personnel Navy; employees of departmental security of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

4. The Government of the Russian Federation, federal executive authorities that provide for military service, shall, within a 6-month period, bring their regulatory legal acts into compliance with this Decree.

Insignia by military rank of military personnel of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, other troops, military formations and bodies

1. Insignia of military ranks are multi-color or khaki embroidered images of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation without a heraldic shield, embroidered and metal five pointed stars golden (for senior officers - 5% gilding) or khaki color, stripes of golden or khaki color, as well as galloons and embroidered stars of golden color (for admirals - 5% gilding) placed horizontally on the sleeves of the jackets of ship officers.

2. The dimensions of insignia for military ranks placed on shoulder straps are:

the diameter of the embroidered State Emblem of the Russian Federation and the star of the Marshal of the Russian Federation is 40 mm;

the diameter of the embroidered stars of senior officers is 22 mm;

the diameter of the large metal stars of senior officers is 20 mm;

admiral - three stars located on the longitudinal center line of the shoulder strap, superimposed on gray or black rays, with golden anchors located on black pentagons in the center of the stars;

vice admiral - two stars located on the longitudinal center line of the shoulder strap, superimposed on gray or black rays, with golden anchors located on black pentagons in the center of the stars;

rear admiral - one star located on the longitudinal center line of the shoulder strap, superimposed on gray or black rays, with a golden anchor located on a black pentagon in the center of the star;

colonel (captain 1st rank) - three stars, of which the two lower stars are located on both sides in the middle between the longitudinal center line and the edge of the shoulder strap, the third star is above the first two on the longitudinal center line of the shoulder strap;

lieutenant colonel (captain 2nd rank) - two stars located on both sides in the middle between the longitudinal center line and the edge of the shoulder strap;

major (captain 3rd rank) - one star located on the longitudinal center line of the shoulder strap;

captain (lieutenant captain) - four stars, of which the two lower stars are located on both sides in the middle between the longitudinal center line and the edge of the shoulder strap, the third and fourth stars are above the first two on the longitudinal center line of the shoulder strap;

5. On the shoulder straps of privates and sailors, insignia of military rank are not worn.
