There are only a few perfume masterpieces in the world that have stood the test of time and are still loved by many women, regardless of age or nationality.

1. CHANEL No. 5
The most famous are, of course, the legendary Chanel N5 perfume. Being a joint creation of Coco Chanel and perfumer Ernest Beaux, "N5" has its own history. Unlike the floral compositions of the time, which quickly evaporated after opening the bottle, "No. 5" was based on 80 different ingredients, which made the scent more stable and abstract. Ernest Beaux made several samples for Chanel, Mademoiselle Chanel herself selected the compositions she liked until she found what she wanted - a reflection of the image of a woman “from Chanel”. During one of the tests, she randomly chose a bottle with number 5 and really liked the smell. It so happened that Chanel also considered 5 to be her lucky number, which is why the perfume got its name.
The composition of the perfume itself is very simple, which, however, does not prevent them from displaying all their notes in a luxurious bouquet. 2. JICKY DE GUERLAIN

The “oldest” fragrance that exists to this day is, perhaps, “Jicky” from the famous perfume house Guerlain. In 1860, Aimé Guerlain, son of Pierre-François-Pascal Guerlain, went to England to study. A few years later, after the death of her father, Aimé has to return to France to help her brother Gabriel manage the perfume production. But his beloved, whose name is Jicky, remains in England, and whom he will never see again... This love will inspire the young perfumer to create the famous perfume - Jicky de Guerlain.

The year of production of "Zhika" - 1889 - is also the year of construction of the Eiffel Tower. Along with the innovations of the end of the century, perfumery is also moving forward. Before the advent of "Zhika", the perfume of good society was a weak solution with a floral scent - usually mimosa or violet - and they were sprayed not on the body, but on a handkerchief. In addition, perfumes were not “male” or “female”, they were used by everyone (Guerlain created later, in 1904, the perfume “Mouchoir de Monsieur”). The appearance of “Zhiki” was a kind of revolution in perfumery: it was clearly a “masculine” scent due to the predominance of strong notes over floral ones, and the rectangular bottle indicated this. In addition, they became the first work of modern perfumery, which, unlike traditional perfumery, no longer tries to imitate natural pure smells, but creates them itself, inspired by new images and ideas - as in poetry or fine art. After all, “Zhiki” was the first to combine natural and synthetic components. The synthetic ones were vanillin (synthesized by Lair and Reimer in 1876), which gives a stronger and more persistent odor, and coumarin (isolated from tonka beans by the chemist Perkin in 1868), which gives freshness and dynamism. The composition of “Zhiki” is as follows: top fresh citrus notes - lemon, bergamot, lavender (vanillin); piquant mint, verbena, marjoram, thyme. Then tonic freshly cut hay, rosemary and basil. Middle notes are jasmine and rosewood; at the base are radical and intense opoponax, tonka bean (coumarin), sandalwood and the animal scent of civet (secretion of the glands of the civet cat).

The aroma belongs to the fern family, the dominant accord is semi-oriental and aromatic. The combination of lavender-hay-bergamot made Zhiki attractive to many men due to its avant-garde scent at that time. But nevertheless they became female, which led to corresponding modifications of the bottle. By 1912, the fashion for piquant fragrances was consolidated with the advent of L "Heure Bleu by the house of Guerlain. This also affected the popularity of "Zhika" among the fair sex. You probably didn’t know that this fragrance was born in... the Hermitage. Perfumer Kalis Becker had Russian roots and once came to Russia to go to the Hermitage. Admiring Flemish painting, Kalis noticed that in all still lifes the individual elements are beautiful on their own, but together, in composition, their beauty is revealed even brighter. Then she admits that while directly creating the fragrance, she “saw” its ingredients as a beautiful picture: a luxurious bouquet, a bottle of wine and a basket of delicious fruit.

Elizabeth Taylor: Bal a Versailles, Jean Desprez

An oriental fragrance with notes of rosemary, orange blossom, vanilla and sandalwood was created in 1962 and captivated Elizabeth Taylor. It was this perfume that the actress wore during the filming of Cleopatra. Interesting fact: the star gave one bottle of Bal a Versailles to Michael Jackson, and he used it all his life. Grace Kelly: Fleurissimo, Creed
